TRAINING & CERTIFICATION ...

WHO IS REALLY ULTIMATELY RESPONSIBLE & ANSWERABLE ?

In the past it was thought that by adopting the manufacturer's training program we would be secure from liability. The thought was that these programs were good for

certification and therefore good for court. That is only partially true and not exactly the best course to follow for hospital safety & security departments. Frankly, the only reason we used these programs was due to the fact that they were the only

ones available at the time. The fact is the manufacturer's program won't stand up in

court any better than a program designed for hospital safety & security officers,

maybe not as good. The reason for this is that they will testify specifically about

their device. The manufacturer may well not be knowledgeable of hospital policy &

procedures, also local / state laws. In this regard, a program developed specifically

for healthcare & hospital staff by a trainer who develops programs only for this

specialized group of people would do much better than using a program developed

for police officers and police departments (all manufacturer's training programs are

developed ONLY for police) A program developed for healthcare & hospitals only

is just as certifiable as long as we follow the basic protocol of having a syllabus,

lesson plan, and testing system that is all documented
